    The  method for install.packages:

Install the ubuntu package libxml2-dev in a shell prompt type,

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install libxml2-dev

The user would want special sudo powers for this.

    Package method for Ubuntu:

    sudo apt-get install r-cran-xml

Check out the R ubuntu sources page which will arrange that have a present version of R and the affiliated R packages. It will be important if we use the LTS version of ubuntu.
